Mobius has gone to some lengths to make give them a premium appearance - my review unit makes extensive use of copper-colored trim and painted highlights - but the headphones appear to be made primarily of plastic. That headband can withstand twisting and seems capable of taking considerable punishment. The Mobius headphones feel solidly constructed and the memory foam padding on the ear pads and flexible headband make them quite comfortable to wear. For a considerably more detail on the technology and features included with these headphones, check out the Audeze Mobius product page. This is one of those cases where there is so much going on here, I have to stick to key headphone-related specs to avoid turning this into a volume. I was also surprised that Audeze didn’t include a 1/4-inch headphone jack adapter - the first thing I wanted to do was plug these planar headphones into my vintage receiver to listen to some vinyl, but I had to dig up an adapter. Because they are powered by their own amplifier, they are out of operation until charged (about three hours) or unless you connect via USB and charge as you’re listening. In addition, if the battery is dead or the power is off, you can’t simply use these with a 3.5mm cable. And the Mobius headphones deliver just 10 hours of use on a charge, which is around half of what most Bluetooth headphones offer. Unfortunately, there is a limitation on the listening front in the form of battery life. Using headphones for music with a mobile device, or video on a TV typically means wireless connectivity. If you watch video on your PC or a source with USB output, then you should be able to take full advantage of the advanced surround sound capabilities. The Audeze Mobius headphones were also great for watching movies on a 4K Apple TV, although they don’t support 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround sound over Bluetooth. I listened to a wide range of tracks over Bluetooth with these headphones and the experience was exceptional on tracks ranging from Dire Straits’ “Sultans of Swing” to The Tragically Hip’s “Grace Too” and atmospheric, synth-heavy songs like FM’s “Phasors on Stun.” Listening to vinyl was a sweet experience even if I did have to supply the adapter. If you own a device with LDAC support, the headphones are capable of taking full advantage of this high resolution audio encoding. There is plenty of detail through the mid and high ranges, and the sound stage is definitely a step up from most headphones in my collection. There is plenty of bass on tap but the tuning is much closer to a studio level than you’ll find in typical gaming headsets, so the low end isn’t overpowering. Listening to music on these headphones is a joy. This adds weight (and bulk) compared to the use of dynamic drivers, but the payoff is superior bass response with less distortion and a more immersive soundstage. Planar drivers use a lot more magnets to move the entire diaphragm instead of just the voice coil. Instead, the Mobius headphones are equipped with planar magnetic drivers, which are typically found only in expensive headphones aimed at the audiophile market. The big difference here is that Audeze doesn’t use the dynamic drivers that are typically found in headphones for this market. Switching on the Music profile, the Audeze Mobius headphones are a big step up from typical gaming headsets - and most consumer wireless headphones - in terms of audio quality. ![]() Mobius offers a wide range of gaming-specific settings that can be activated through the AudezeHQ application (available for Mac and PC), including Footsteps, Ballistics, Racing and RPG. Ready for gaming with 7.1 channel surround audio, multiple connectivity options and a removable mic.
